Welcome to Train Children Chess Academy, where we teach children chess and help them stay on track towards success! At Train Children Chess Academy, we aim to improve the educational outcomes and social development of our children through the game of chess. For over a decade, we have been teaching chess to thousands of children in many schools across Los Angeles and Orange County.

“‘Mr. Josh’ as my students over the years have called him is INCREDIBLE! His love for the game of chess is as equal as his love for teaching chess. Over the years, I have seen Mr. Josh teach various grade levels and he reaches all students, all grade levels, and all ability levels. His humor and teaching strategies engage students the entire time. He will have your students thinking they are chess masters within a few sessions…and they will be! I highly recommend Mr. Josh.”

Develop Your perspective, Improve Your Memory, and Deepen Your focus.

Chess offers lessons that extend far beyond the board. Your child will learn everything from strategy, logic, critical thinking, spatial reasoning, and pattern recognition to social and emotional cues as well.

Here is a review of some of the benefits of chess:

  • Based on a 2019 longitudinal study in Alabama, playing chess can improve a student’s academic performance, more so among younger students. Even the teachers demonstrated more enthusiasm towards their jobs.
  • Chess players have also demonstrated better memory skills, including their recollection abilities. After all, chess is a game requiring the player to memorize numerous combinations of moves. In one study, in particular, the participating children showed increased performance in math-problem solving and comprehension proportionate to the amount of chess in the curriculum.
  • Chess can also help increase a child’s creative thinking skills. As a case in point, this research study by professor Aryperi Sigirtmac found significant statistical differences between the scores of children who received chess training and those who didn’t in terms of creative thinking and theory of mind tests.
  • Students with ADHD may also benefit from playing chess. In this 2016 study,  investigating a sample of 100 school-aged children, students who received a multi-faceted treatment plan involving chess showed a 41 percent decrease in both inattentiveness and over-activity.
  • With chess, you have to learn how to first think about the consequences of your actions and then make the decision. As such, it has the potential to help kids develop better planning and foresight skills.
