Chess In Schools

Train Children Chess Academy has touched the lives of thousands of students across Los Angeles and Orange county with our chess program. Teaching students how to play chess in school is a worthy endeavor since chess integrates and complements academic learning. That’s why we sought to make chess more accessible to students by partnering with schools.

Our company is fully insured and all of our employees are verified through background checks by the FBI and DOJ. Our supervisors are required to obtain an Activity Supervisor Clearance Certificate issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The well-being of every child is our first priority.

Maintaining a healthy environment for the kids and staff is of the utmost importance to us. To ensure that, all of our staff are TB tested and CDC compliant for health and safety against Covid.

“I started participating in chess with Mr. Josh when I was in TK and I learned so much. I continued through 2nd grade. I am now in 5th grade and play chess with my friends and family. I love chess and I owe it all to Mr. Josh.”

—Michael Romo, Chess Student

How it Works

To give you a glimpse into our program, we do free in-class demonstrations from morning to noon that go for about two or three weeks. Each class receives a 45-minute chess lesson and playtime once a week for several weeks.

Once the two or three weeks are up, students will have the option to join our after-school chess program held at their school. Our in-class chess demonstrations are completely free at no cost to the child or school. But for students who want to continue learning and playing chess, they can join our exciting chess club after-school at a cost.

What to Expect

After receiving free in-class chess lessons, you can expect most of the students who have never been taught the game of chess to now know how to play! They will know the names of each piece, how they move and attack and understand the meaning of check and checkmate.

Our younger students (K-2nd) usually take a little longer to grasp the concept of check and checkmate but will eventually get it as they continue learning through our chess lessons. Students who join our after-school chess program will be separated according to grade and/or skill level. The kids will be given an hour total of chess lessons and playing time each week. Every week the kids will review pieces, go over lessons, and be taught new moves and strategies.

The upper grades (3rd-5th) will compete in a chess tournament for trophies, prizes, and medals.  Every child in the chess club will receive their own personal magnetic chess set at the end of the chess session! Chess sessions are typically 6 weeks long.

Results You Can Expect

We are proud to say that the results of our lessons are often immediate! Many kids who were once timid also break out of their shells and engage in the game, surprising many parents and teachers alike with their newfound confidence.

Your child will improve their cognitive skills including but not limited to concentration, decision making, problem-solving and critical thinking. Watching a child develop self-confidence and self-worth is one of the most important benefits that we’ve seen throughout the years of teaching chess.

Our chess program also helps build character in children because we implement our core values into the lessons which are to be kind, respect people, work hard, believe in yourself, and never give up!
